2009 FIVE OAKS CABERNET SAUVIGNON
The 2009 Cabernet Sauvignon is somewhat lighter on the palate than the 2007. The nose and palate are primarily a complex mix of dark fruit, ripe blackcurrants, blackberries and black plums, with hints of dark olives and chocolate. The rich flavours are balanced by generous, but soft, grape tannins seamlessly integrated with subtle oak tannins derived from 18 months of maturation in French oak barriques. This wine is approaching optimum drinking and should easily be around to at least 2017-2018.
2010 FIVE OAKS SGS CABERNET SAUVIGNON
This is the type of Cabernet Sauvignon that made the Yarra Valley famous 20 - 30 years ago! Dark, plush cassis; a firm and gripping ride of black fruits, olive tapenade, breathtaking length and structural drive. Has a gloriously imposing presence now that many will love. It will develop further over the next 5 - 6 years into a seamless powerhouse. Enjoy now, yet, this is a wine for the long haul and it is those that are fortunate enough to hang on to this wine and to see it beyond 2020 that will be the most emotionally enriched by the experience.
2011 FIVE OAKS CABERNET SAUVIGNON MERLOT
This 70% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Merlot blend from the cooler 2011 vintage is our most exceptionally good medium-bodied Cabernet blend since 2002; a great middle ground between Pinot Noir and the traditional Yarra Valley Cabernet style. Ravishing black olive, cloves, wet forest floor (like a walk after the rain); an earthy purity and fine structural acidity that easily flow through to the finish. Red currants and darker berries guide the style from beginning to end. A beguiling drop!
2012 FIVE OAKS MERLOT
The 2012 Merlot is dark red in colour with purple hues. The wine is more robustly medium-bodied than the 2010 displaying a depth of mainly blackcurrant, dark berry fruit and dark plum aromas and flavours, complemented with some savoury highlights. Lightly spicy elegant French oak and fine ripe tannins add to the soft generously rounded palate.
2012 FIVE OAKS CABERNET SAUVIGNON
We find our 2012 Cabernet Sauvignon to be perhaps the most effortlessly seamless Cabernet in recent years. The nose and palate are a bath of blackcurrants and blood plum, coffee grounds and dark chocolate flakes. This wine has what we call "line and length"; linear fine tannins with plush flavour flourishing off its spine; very attractively mouth-filling. This is an exciting wine now. It will build further density and complexity with time in bottle, much like the recently tasted delicious 2003 Cabernet from our museum stock. This wine is well worth cellaring for 4 to 5 years!
2013 FIVE OAKS CABERNET SAUVIGNON
Here is what James Halliday said about this wine in scoring it 96/100! "Estate-grown, hand-picked, fermented for 16 days in open fermenters, matured for 18 months in French oak (90% new). Excellent, vibrant colour; a splendidly juicy attack of cassis on the palate makes you sit up and either wave or salute, the choice is yours; the impact continues through to the back-palate, joined there by fine-grained tannins and well integrated, cedary oak"
2013 FIVE OAKS MERLOT
Sydney wine writer Paul Ippolito described our 2013 Merlot in his "5 Minute Wine Rush" of 31 March 2015: "Classy drop from the boutique Yarra Valley outfit. Aromatic spicy and an overall attractive nose. Medium bodied with evocative black olives, cherries, blackberries, plums and prunes, the nose does have it all in a melded array of aromas. Like the smoothness on the palate with plenty of oomph on one hand and yet good overall integration on the other. Mildly oaked, smooth ripe tannins. Well rounded, long and lingering on the finish, this drinks well with chargrilled chorizo sausages."
2014 CABERNET SAUVIGNON
The 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon was bottled on 19 December 2015 after 18 months maturation in 85% new French oak barriques. Here is what James Halliday said about this Cabernet Sauvignon: "Vibrantly fresh; has made light work of all the new oak in which it was matured; dried herb and bay leaf contributing to its flavour spectrum. The tannins, on the other hand, are finer than usual." The rich blackcurrent, blackberry, dark plum primary flavours of this young wine, complemented by the savour characters referred to by Halliday, will give a long bottle life. While very approachable now, the 2014 Cabernet should drink well to 2029.
2015 FIVE OAKS SGS CABERNET SAUVIGNON
Bottled on 19 September 2016 this SGS Cabernet Sauvignon, only our fourth in 20 years, is our most "voluptuous" since the first one from the 2000 vintage. At this infant stage of its life it displays intense, upfront blackcurrant and dark fruit aromas on the nose, with the same rich depth of flavours on the palate, complemented by generous soft mouth-filling tannins and great length. Has a fabulously imposing presence now that will grow and grow with time in bottle.

2016 FIVE OAKS CABERNET ROSÈ
This is a more intense style of Rosé made from Cabernet Sauvignon grapes. It is somewhat darker than the usual Rosé. Its amber colour is derived from overnight contact of the Cabernet juice with the deeply coloured skins from our 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon. Its nose and flavour are reminiscent of field strawberries, rose petals and ripe watermelon. With good acidity, this wine has a long fruity crisp finish.
2013 FIVE OAKS RIESLING
Bottled on 17 September 2013, this Riesling is similar to the 2011 Riesling but with a touch more residual sugar (approximately 7 grams per litre) balancing off the wine's natural acidity. It has a touch of green tint to its pale lemon colour. The aroma is one of lemon, lime and green apple, with slight floral hints. These are reflected on the palate and nicely complement the crisp long finish. Like the 2011, this Riesling will have excellent bottle ageing potential.
2014 FIVE OAKS LATE HARVEST RIESLING
This is our first Late Harvest Riesling, which was bottled on 21 November 2014 in 500 ml bottles. It contains 37 g/litre residual sugar which is balanced by a crisp natural acidity so that it has a refreshing sweet finish. Serve it chilled as a dessert wine or as a pre-dinner aperitif on ice cubes with soda water.
2015 FIVE OAKS RIESLING
Bottled on 19 December 2015, this Riesling is very similar to the 2013, with approximately 8 grams per litre of residual sugar balancing the wine's natural acidity. It has a youthful green tint to its pale lemon colour. The aroma is a complex of mainly green apple and floral notes, with some citrus hints. These carry through to the palate where they are nicely complemented with a crisp acidity. Like the 2013, this Riesling will have excellent bottle ageing potential.
2016 FIVE OAKS RIESLING
Bottled on 19 September 2016, this Riesling is very similar to the 2015, with approximately 3 grams per litre of residual sugar. It is pale lemon in colour with a green tint. It has a complex floral, citrus and green apple aroma and palate, which is nicely complemented with a crisp refreshing acidity.
